Dr. Mike McIlwain grew up in Tampa along with his four sisters and two brothers. He graduated from Berkeley Preparatory School where he was captain of the soccer team, was chosen as Florida Soccer Player of the year for the state as a senior, was on the Southern Olympic Soccer Team and was also chosen as one of the 11 soccer players of the decade by the Tampa Tribune 2000. Dr. Mike went on to play soccer at the University of Maryland. He is married to Cristina Yarnoz McIlwain, a graduate of the University of Florida School of Law. They have a growing family of daughters, Ella and Lucia and son, Grayson. They also have 2 Labrador Retrievers.
Dr. McIlwain attended dental school and received his pediatric dental training at the University of Florida College of Dentistry in Gainesville. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and as extensive training in sedation and general anesthesia procedures.
Dr. McIlwain is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, the West Coast Dental Association, the Hillsborough County Dental Association, the American Orthodontic Society and a member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Craniofacial team. He is on the 2nd level of the 3rd tier advancement toward a Diplomate in the American Orthodontic Society. Dr. Mike is also a proud member of the Tampa Bay Cleft and Craniofacial Center!
